Mix pie filling, water and 2 Tbsp butter in a 3 1/2 quart saucepan.Boil for 5 minutes.
To make dumplings; mix together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cut in butter.
Add vanilla to milk and mix with flour mixture just enough to moisten all dry ingredients.
Drop dumplings by teaspoonful into the hot sauce.
Boil uncovered for 5 minutes.
Cover and steam gently for about 20-25 minutes or until dumplings are no longer moist on top.
Great served with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
