This Chicken Dumplings Recipe
So Good




This Chicken Dumplings Recipe is definitely a comfort food. So satisfying on a bone chilling day. or soothing for a family member with a cold. We usually serve this with a pot of fresh cooked green beans and coleslaw.

Ingredients:

  • 1 5-6lb stewing chicken
  • 1 gallon water
  • salt to taste
  • 4 cups self rising flour
  • 2 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1/4 to 1/2 stick of butter
  • black pepper

DIRECTIONS:

    Use a large pot or Dutch Oven.
    Fill with water and add salt.
    Bring to a boil.
    Place chicken into water and simmer for one hour.
    While chicken is cooking, prepare dumplings.
    In a medium bowl place flour and add hot water gradually.
    Blend until dough is well mixed.
    Divide dough into small portions and roll out on lightly floured surface.
    You will have to roll out each batch separately.
    Roll very thin 1/8" thick.
    Cut into long 1" wide strips.
    Let dumplings set while bones are removed from chicken.
    Put butter into boiling chicken broth.
    Drop in dumplings one at a time.
    Add plenty of black pepper.
    Do not stir. Cook about 10 minutes.
    When edges look clear, they are done.
    Let dumplings sit about 5 or 10 minutes before serving.
